well i know mercy ships is international. so that's my one concern with that--will mo deca kids want to be involved?
but as for seeing direct results, i talk to jamie (my friend who is on one of the ships) and she is a picture freak! we could see exactly waht mercy ships is doing.
and poverty is something that everyone can be passionate about. i just feel taht as the action team, we are given a huge opportunity to make a difference. i feel like people in places like africa are often forgotten about since they are so far away.
i'll keep looking into other places too. more local places. but honestly, i think if we could do something international, that could open doors into an amazing future with MO DECA and fundraising. i'm still looking though.
Okay so I have been researching and I seem to be liking anything that deals with children. If you know of anything that deals with developing children into leaders that would be awesome! Here are some charities I like so far: - Covenant House- St. Louis - Angel Arms - Huntingtons Disease- St. Louis Chapter - And of course still, Make A Wish Let me know what you think! Allie
Allie, At Affton we have picked one charity to work with this year, Friends of Kids with Cancer. I can check and see if the director has any connections with Make a wish or any of the other organizations you listed if you would like. I'll give you her contact info too.
I found another organization that is pretty cool. A friend of mine said her brother works with them a lot and he thinks they are great! Its called Ranken Jordan and it's a hospital for sick kids regardless of their ability to pay. They have one in Missouri and there are 5 others throughout the country. Tell me what your favorite fundraiser is because I need to submit my POA to Mr. Young by tonight! Thanks guys! - Allie

Remember, key things for this to be successful are:
1. Highly relevant to the 9,000 MO DECA members.
2. Need to be able to see results.
3. Needs to be something we and everyone can associate with and be passionate about.
Are you wanting to know a charity to pick? Or ideas to actually reaise money?
